135mm front fork?

I know that Surly makes one for their huge winter bike, but I'd be interested in one for my old MTB. 1" threaded headset, canti brakes, old geometry etc. Does such a thing exist?

Also why are front fork dropouts 100mm? It would seem like a person could just bend one of those out to 135mm if they tried hard enough but I don't really know for sure.

Thanks for any insights on this. Its more of a curiosity thing than anything.
