For racing it may make sense to change the 12-27 cassette to something like a 12-23, or even an 11-21, depending on the race course. Pardon me, I missed the 39t middle ring. That seems a bad move by Shimano. I love the 42t ring and find it one of the more versatile things in cycling. Besides, it is already a triple; why gear it down?
