Great replies, folks.

Itīs still too cold and wintery for riding on most days. So we spend a lot of time imagining what it would be like when we build more experience.
And reading about other teams and what they do is such a good timekiller when we canīt go out.

Our main interest, at least for now is offroad tandeming. And thatīs where we feel the biggest need for communicating.

Since the intro post we did a few more trips, and already now we started skipping most of the calls for gearshifting. But as soon as the uphills gets steep, it seems too risky to just throw in a lower gear. Scared of chainsnapping, we are :-)

Some calls like "branch, bump or duck" will probably be needed until the captain develops see-through abilities ;-)

The stoker (that's me) wonders how much other stokers count on being able to see ahead to what's coming--do you try to see ahead all the time or do you just take it from the capt'n?
