Any good no-suspension bikes?

I've been riding mountain bikes for a very long time (my first real mountain bike was a Jamis Dakota in the mid '80's) and BMX before that. I've never cared much for suspended bikes. Right now I'm riding a C'dale M400 because it was the nicest thing I could find with no front suspension. I do alot of slow, technical type riding. I love super tight switchbacks, rocks, logs etc. A local dealer showed me a bike that had a rigid fork installed in place of it's suspenders. To keep the geometry right, the forks were a little long. To me, it felt like a chopper! I also prefer steel. Maybe it's because I've spent so much time on steel bikes. To me, Aluminum just feels too stiff and "dead". Am I SOL?
