I may be misunderstanding you, but it seems that you see them purely as a slip-on. There's actually a loop on the back, which you pull up once the shoe is on. That tightens the shoe on your foot (in place of using laces). It seems to have all the adjustability necessary.
Thanks for the clarification - I haven't seen this shoes so didn't know about the locking mechanism...
