While this year happens to be one of the flattest RAGBRAI's ever, you should see if you can borrow a child trailer from someone, throw an amount of weight equal to your buddy in it and see if you can make it 60-70 miles. My guess is you'll give up after 20 miles. I know towing our daughter with a loaded down trailer going to a picnic (total weight about 50-60 lbs including trailer) is a helluva workout even on the flats and forget about any major hills.

A secondary thought would be to just have them ride the sag wagon or be the bus driver for the week and have them do the driving from town to town if you're hauling gear that way. Then they can party with you every night still and just miss the ride portion.
