Yeah, you could put the bigger one in the rear and get better climbing traction, but the front wheel is responsible for almost all braking and turning (yes the rear tire helps most of the time, but if your front washes out, you're screwed).
So I put the bigger one on front because I would rather push up a few steep sections than have to go slower/die on the descents.
