New tires will help . . . . but the answer is a new bike. For a year I was trying to get in better shape by riding my old mountain bike. (Like you, I was riding the MUPs.) I bought road slicks to go faster. That was an improvement. Then I decided to buy a road bike. What a difference!
I was able to get in some long rides and a decent average speed.
Two days ago I decided to take a ride on the old mountain bike. Dang, was I ever slow again.
The workout was probably just as good but it was a
slow workout.
