That's a great course, nice and shady and protected from the wind. I believe the 1st Tuesdays of the month they add an additional C race for Jrs and recreational riders.
+1 on safe and predicable. No sudden movements and keep your line. Relax and have a good time. 40 mins maybe a long time for your first crit but get in as much work you can and get the feel for it while you're in there. They'll probably be a few breaks early so don't redline too early and blow up. And remember this is a TRAINING crit - no need for risky moves.

Since you're in that area, check out the Go Fast Turn Left #3 race in August. This is held on the Southside Speedway. An easy oval course. The August race should be fun since this is the last BAR race and they are having the track races under the lights after the road races complete. Since it's held at the 'racetrack', coolers with frosty beverages are welcomed - beer belly and rebel flags are optional.
