It depends what you're doing... the Hardrock isn't a good cross country bike just so you know. Its geometry is too aggressive and closer to dirtjump/freeride geometry than XC geometry. The thing you can do best to improve your riding experience is to get out, get in shape and practice your technique, strength and skill. That being said the fork on the Comp is fine, its a pretty good fork for a bike in that price range... though pretty heavy. If you do get the Comp and want to do some XC riding I would recommend a longer stem for better handling and climbing. Any fork with a 1 1/8" steerer tube will fit the bike.
