Blazing Saddles

Bianca the Bianchi emerged from the LBS with a new chain, new cables, new lubrication, and nice full tires. I couldn't wait to get on the road for the first time in years. Remembering my helmet and gloves, but neglecting bike pants (dumb) and water bottle (dumb, dumb), I set out for a wobble around the block. It's amazing how quickly it all comes back. Around the block turned into a ten mile jaunt around town. I felt great! Sure, I'm a fifty-year-old model of physical fatness, but the wind was in my face and the tires were humming on the damp road and I was Eddy Merckx.

After dinner I went out again (this time with bike pants and a water bottle). Only five miles this time. And now I'm feeling it. My perineum feels distinctly bruised, and my achilles tendons are tender (I had hoped the cycling would be easier on 'em than walking. Looks like I was wrong.)

Remind me - how long does it take to get used to a saddle again?
