To the OP, buy whatever fits well and suits you. You may find that a particular brand tends to fit better than others across a line. I recall testing out Kona, Trek and Specialized hardtails, all in the same size. I found the Kona didn't really work, but that the Trek and Specialized were almost identical. Up until that point, I was a diehard Specialized guy, but I chose the Trek for the better parts pick. Don't limit yourself to a brand. Always test ride a bunch of different bikes to see what you like the most.
