Windows Movie Maker is free and probably already installed on your system. Try that first.
but avoid all that stupid animation it does, adobe offers free 30 day downloads on their site, and you can also use download.com. if you like it you can always buy it. or do what i do, get all my footage together, then download the software for the month and make the vid. then hopefully theyll have a new version to try next year.
