It never hurts to shop around. I brought a Marin Coastal Trail Comfort at the local Gaylans on sale for $200 (March 2004), and have been very pleased with it (commuting 8-10 miles a day and rec. rides with my son). However, I didn't get much help with sizing the bike at Gaylans (didn't ask however--they may have helped). Your local bike shop would probably do a good job of making sure you got a good fit.
