In June of 2005 I blacked out after my front QR detonated and I crashed, bouncing my (fortunately) helmeted Pcad noggin off the Berlin (Germany) pavement @ 25mph. Woke up in a German hospital ER with a doctor speaking to me in perfect English with a German/North Carolina accent (he had spent a few years in NC as an intern before he returned to Berlin to practice). It was an other worldly experience, but oddly pain free. I did look rather gruesome however. But I was riding two days later. Road rash, bruises, concussion but no lasting trauma.

By the way some Berlin Good Samaritan put me and my bike in their car and deposited me @ the ER without identifying themselves. Never learned who they were. Very odd experience that had a happy outcome, could have been much worse. Total Berlin ER bill was under $1000 (that included a CT scan). I'm sure in the USA it would have been much higher.
