The OP's son is 2 years old. I don't think a multiple impact helmet used say the way a 10 year old would use it is required. You are only trying to improve the chances of little to no injuries in an accident. If you are worried about a major accident, you should reconsider the activity. There will be very little you can do in the case of a car impact. Your best protection in that case is the cage of the trailer.

Do they make skate board helmets for 2 year olds?
