I have a Cross Check that has been ridden in just about every config possible (fixed, ss, gears, flat bar, drop bar, panniers, fenders, rack, blah blah blah). It is the most versatile bike I have. Currently setup w/ gears, bar end shifters, drop bars, front dyno hub, etc. The Cross Check is a great bike. I have ridden it lots during the winter (mostly on dirt/snow roads). It has very predictable handling, takes very large tires if you want them (44c), and has a nice smooth ride. get one...
