Well, you can usually find a way around the steeper bits. But not always.

When we first moved here a couple years ago, our rental flat was about halfway up Mt. Tabor. If the place you want to get to is significantly higher (or lower) from where you are, there's nothing for it. You learn hills or you don't ride.
