I find this hard to understand.

If you are using them with Shimano lever there is little difference. The pull ratio for Shimano is 3:1, while Campagnolo is 2:1. Campagnolo pads are also much harder than Shimano pads. If you are using the Campagnolo brakes with their EP lever, I can't believe you couldn't notice a clear difference in braking modulation, the feel of the pad on the rim and durability.

Where I live it is very mountainous. When my team switched to Record from DA, I almost launched myself over a cliff the first time I did some real descending with the Record brakes. It took me a bit to get used to them. Now I find Shimano brakes are soft and wimpy (plus the pads wear out quite quickly).

Try cleaning your rims and see if that doesn't make a difference.
