I have less space than that and I don't have a free wall (I like books too--at 750 volumes now). What I have is a bicycle hook in a different wall for each of them (in a space with just enough room to hang a bicycle). I hang them by the front wheel and the rear wheel rests on the wall. It looks like the bicycle is going up the wall. Make sure they are in a stud though. I use the really heavy duty ones from Home Depot that hold like 200 lbs.
