In the panel on the left side, open the "Map Settings" tab, click the "Follow Roads" box. I tend to toggle this on and off - in urban areas, it tends to default to the most efficient route by car, so it will turn off the street I want to be on, cut over to a higher-speed arterial, and then back, not exactly what I'm after most of the time...
