You can afford 40 bucks right? Get a 3 watt LED mini mag light and two small hose clamps and mount it to your handlebars. Under $30 start to finish. Go to Wal-mart and buy a Bell rear blinkie, under ten bucks. Under $40 all in for front and rear. Both are amazingly bright. They are not sold at the bike shop, so they are not cool, but now you have lights that are plenty for riding on the roads or bike trails. Use your change to buy some reflective tape and stick it on your helmet in a few places and you will be even more visible. Then you can stop whining and go ride your bike instead.
