I'm told that fitness, however it's gained, decreases very slowly for 10 days then drops off at 3 times the rate you gained it. Muscle memory plays a big part so if you've always been fit the drop off may not be immediately noticeable.

A weeks rest is nice but any more than that and expect some pain .
