I'm gonna preface this story by saying my whole family is pretty intensely and sincerely Christian.

So I bought my brother's fiance Midnight's Children by Rushdie for Christmas - the night I brought it home my Mom was asking me about it, about Rushdie, &etc. After I told her about how he got a Fatwa declared on him for Satanic Verses she got really concerned and asked me if I thought as a Christian girl she'd like a book by an author who'd write something like that.

I laughed and reminded her it isn't difficult to offend the kind of Muslims that declare Fatwas when it comes to their religion. She just looked kind of puzzled and concerned. The gift was well received though.
