Can you repair a wobbly disk rotor????

During transit from Lagos, Nigeria to South Africa the rear rotor on our MTB tandem got ever so slightly wobbly. It is rubbing on the pads and makes a irritating noise. Any way to fix this. A local messageboard suggested that you place the disk on a heated solid electric stove plate with a large pot filled with water on top of it. Could this work or were they fibbing**********???
