I've been using some INSport winter training pants quite happily for 35 to 55 degree weather, depending on wind. I haven't had any problems with "hooking" like I do with jersey shorts. If I wear my bike shorts under them, I feel quite comfortable, and a lot less silly walking into a store. Especially if I remember to take my helmet off.
