The perfect gear ratio is fine really. If you can get a gear ratio that is perfectly ridable and fits your exact measurements, why would it be stupid to use it? If you're using it in a ratio that doesn't make sense to be riding or is too high for you, then yes it is not wise to use. They make tensioners somewhere that do not need to go on the derailleur hanger, though.
