Welcome to BF. I'm a 63 year old lone rider.

Have you considered taking a BikeEd class to learn safe cycling skills. I'm a BikeEd instructor so my wife doesn't really worry about me whether I'm doing a Sat/Sun ride or bike commuting to work.

BRAG? What part of Georgia do you live in? When you get a chance stop by the Southeast regional subforum and introduce yourself to the locals.
