Pictures are nice, but not really necessary for every single post.

And remember: there is no law stating you must post daily. Post when you feel like it. Post when you have time. Post when you just want to pop in a say "hi!"
You don't need to post every day, but should be consistent about posting, when you need to say something every day, you either need a hot topic, or you need to spend a lot of time, coming up with new things to say. Otherwise you end up running out of material, and then you start posting the same stuff, over and over, ad nausium.

There are two ways around this, first you can post different subjects on different days, this is easiest when you have a series like "News you can use" on Tuesdays, Photo of the week on Thursdays, and Bike Stats on Saturdays. The other option is to post less often, but be consistent in your postings, for example a weekly posting, which will bring readers back week after week to see what you have to say. Some readers will read the day you post, others will read on different days, so traffic will smooth out so you get so many readers every day.

You should find about 10 or 15 blogs, read them, and see how they do it, some will suck, some will be average, some will be great, sometimes you will borrow ideas from other blogs...... If you want to see what your readership is like, then add something like Sitemeter (www.sitemeter.com) you can bury it at the bottom. Sometimes you will find you have more visits then you think.
