Rivendell bikes has some very nice wool leg warmers, I just got a pair. First time I used them there was a suprise thunderstorm at the top to a 7000 ft el. climb on the Grizzly Century. The temp dropped from 80 to 45 F in 10 miles. There was rain and sleet. The wool worked very good. When I started the decent, I stayed warm.
