I'm an iconoclast and everything. But the crank on my new bike is FSA Gossamer, and so far, I'm not digging it. Makes clickity noises, aalready one adjustment, will go back for another. I used a 600 Ultegra crank for years, and never had any issue with it at all. Not one off noise, solid, beautiful. And I was 30 lbs more then.

So...obviously, get what suits your taste. But turning down Shimano or Campy because they're too corporate? Unless you made it yourself, what you're buying is from somebody who wants to make money. They're not doing it out of charity. And that last Dura-Ace crank was, to me, elegant and integrated from a design standpoint. A heck of a lot less cheesy looking than hybrid carbon duo-tone etc cranks...to me.
