If you're like me and you haven't been in the bicycle market in awhile, you might be surprised at all the different bicycle types out there. From what you've briefly described as your riding plan, you might be suited to a hybrid bike, which is what I have. But then again, you might discover after having ridden a few weeks that you want to do more than commute and ride around your neighborhood. You might discover that you'd like to be able to go on very long rides—fifty miles or more—something most hybrid bikes aren't suited for. So talk to your local bike store people. Try different kinds of bikes, including road bikes, even if you aren't really interested in skinny tires or leaning forward all that far.
