It's great to start wherever you are starting, with whatever bicycle you have. At some point in the future, when you're ready for it, you would find it a lot easier to ride a bicycle that allows you to enjoy cycling longer and faster. I was pretty sick too, and I'm still borderline in many ways, always just one bad day away from going back on dialysis (I've had a kidney transplant for 2 years), but still, I can get a lot more from cycling with my road bike than I could with a cruiser. This is because I can do more for the same effort. But there's no rush. Do what you can and do it safely. Get more fit and lighter first. You can do that with any bike.
