Very interesting ride report and pics! Thanks for sharing that. As someone who has lived on the East Coast my whole life (well, so far), it was something I probably would not have known about otherwise.
I'm curious though, and this is a sincere question, not a precursor to mocking anyone, but... the commens that it was too cold to ride made me check the weather for SF yesterday. It showed a high of 65, and a low of 53. Am I missing something here?
