it really is about the QR...if you have multiple bikes this is a good way to transfer bags between bikes without buying multiple QR blocks, etc., also, when you're taking the train or bus to get between locations it makes it easy to pop off the bag while in a hurry to make a connection....

as far as load capacity, it's pretty robust...it's a boat cleat! he has toured with a full saddle bag and tied down bottles of water on the D rings outside with that set-up...

For me QR isn't an issue, I'll just keep using the straps. Old Skool man, Old Skool.
