Crashing and it's effect on confidence

I'm really fairly new to mountain biking. I've only been doing it for about 6 months, so I'm really not that great at it yet. Two days ago I went for a XC ride and had a lot of fun. Then a few minutes ago I was just screwing around outside my apartment, and I crashed trying to bunnyhop over a log next to the road. I flipped over the bars, landed on my knee and got hit in the back with my bike. Every time I do something like that I think to myself "Dammit, I should sell this thing, get an XC bike, and stop trying to put the bike in the air and do tricks and I won't hurt myself."

Of course, last week I was riding around town and was doing these little 5-stair gaps over at the university, and I never crashed once... then I was thiking "I need a bigger stairset!"

Bah, confidence is a fickle thing.
