If the 70-300 was a Tamron, I'd recommend against it.

I shoot with a Pentax K20D and have both zooms and primes. I had the Tamron 70-300 for a while and it suffers badly in the PF area. Especially when wide open in high contrast shots. I've heard the Sigma 70-300 has the same issue but not nearly as badly as the Tamron.
