How big is your bathroom? I've remodeled 3 homes in the last 8 years. Major remodeling. If you can't get your bathroom re-done from the studs in for $5,000 or less, keep getting quotes. Find someone you know that had work done, look at the work, and if the contractor comes recommended, go with it. There are some hungry contractors out there right now. On the other hand, some contractors don't want a job to small and they'll purposely give you a high quote to see if you'll bite. If you have some tools and are a little bit handy, do some of it yourself. You might be surprised how good you do, and you don't have to hurry, and you'll learn a ton. Plus, your wife will think you're a stud.
