Great idea! Not sure what sort of advice you are looking for, though.

I don't know much about OC geography, but if you can get to the coast there's a marked bike route "Pacific Coast Bike Route." There's lots of information about it in Kirkendall & Spring's book "Bicycling the Pacific Coast" or AdventureCycling.org has maps. If you don't want to buy their map, you can at least download their GPS points and get an idea of the route. It's pretty simple, though - keep the ocean on your right.

Those 2 resources include information about safe bike routing, camping, distances, and elevations. If you are planning to do this as a 'tour' - that is, sleeping a couple of times along the way, the Touring Forum here is a great place to ask questions. Lots of info there about what gear to take and how to carry it. Also, see www.crazyguyonabike.com for a bunch of people's bike tour journals, many of which have gear lists. Most of the gear lists will be overkill for you, as long as you do your trip in nice weather you won't need to carry much.

If you are planning to do it all in one shot (ride the 220 miles basically without stopping to sleep) then you're in the right forum here.
