Forever is a long time, BK62. I once thought as you do. In 2006, before I learned to ride a bike, I posted to alt.support.diet "Just say NO to fat guys in bike shorts." A few months later, the world saw this:
Someone bet me five dollars I wouldn't wear lycra to my gym. I wore the helmet and gloves as a joke. I won the bet.
BTW, anyone want to try to photoshop some weight off my photo? Since I've been obese since childhood, I've never seen myself thin. The closest I got was 242 last summer (photograph by Neil Fein):
