I used to have the same issue. I usually wear a pair of shorts over my lycra and use ass creme and I have no issues.

BTW, I ride in cotton boxer briefs that don't have padding or a seam. They're also snug, almost like compression shorts. Sometimes on longer rides, I use Bodyglide to lubricate the area. I bought the Bodyglide a couple years ago and I'm not even half way through it. Mostly cuz I don't use it that often. YMMV.
