If you are talking about off-road riding, I suggest asking this in Mountain Biking, but I will warn you that this question might lead to some unpleasantness. Better to Google it for yourself.
If you need to buy a bike on lay-a-way, then I suggest saving your money because a good hardtail is about the same price as a lower-end FS.
