LOL. Like the commercial lights were foolproof. I've ridden with people who DIY and buy commercial lights, things do break when you use them extensively, DIY is no exception. 18 months of MTBing/road/winter/rain on my first DIY. Some DIYers have 3 year old DIY lights still running fine, but the technology has advanced enough that it's cheap to make another one.

Sometimes, you can't pay for someone else's engineering work, because they don't exist and nobody makes them commercially. High end dynamo led utilizing the latest led is something nobody has on the market.
