I would stick with a 110bcd crankset just for the availability of rings. Price bing about the same, the XD is a 5 bolt 110bcd and the Shimano part is a 4 bolt. 110mm bcd is probably the most common out there. Besides, I think the 46 is too low, can't imagine a 44.
I'll probably swap a 48 or 50 onto mine in the near future. If they haven't bought the cranks yet, go with the XD.
