Boxers would be over the top and too heavy for 4X. I had a pair of Marzochhi Freerides on an XC a couple of years ago. These were 135 travel, but there was a mod to cut to 100mm if required. These were also the first forks we fitted to the Tandem so were strong enough for Downhill use aswell, but I would definitely recommend using the bolt through axle if disc brakes are used
