A recumbent is a bike where the rider sits on a nice large comfy seat with a backrest, in a reclined position. Unlesss the recumbent is a "highracer" the seat is very low to the ground, about 2 feet or so. The pedals are higher than on a normal diamond frame bike. They enjoy an aerodynamic advantage over most diamond frame bikes. Downhill they are a veritable street luge. They cost more and are perhaps somewhat heavier than a diamond frame bike. They are very comfortable and excellent for long rides and touring. They are fun and addicting. The most noted feature of a recumbent "pilot" is the big toothy grin at the end of a long ride. I went 'bent this spring and have not been on my road bike since.
