I used WD-40 as a solvent on a rag to clean it up, then waxed it with carnuba car wax. I think I'm just lucky in that there wasn't too much rust on it; the worst is the leading edge of the front fender but since it's painted dark and the rust is dark brown it doesn't really jump out at you.

I hear that this wasn't the best of ideas, but to clean the chrome I used WD-40 and 0000 steel wool. I hear brass wool is better for the finish.
