I first started riding single speed because I commute in the winter and was tired of having things freeze up, so it was the element of simplicity that attracted me at first. Now I ride SS, fixed and geared bikes and they all have their place. Single speeding just another aspect of cycling that has it's own unique rewards and challanges. If you happen to have an old beater bike that doesn't see much use, think about giving it a try. The conversion costs next to nothing and it's reversible if you find you hate it.
