I prefer clipless, but this time of year it's platforms for me! Warmer feet and easier to get a foot down for balance on the icey stuff, as well as the possiblity of frozen pedals.
It all depends on the bike I'm riding to work. 3 of 'em have clipless pedals, 1 has platforms.

It was a big decision for me to go clipless, my most expensive bike cost me $200, new pedals and shoes would cost me almost as much. As it turned out, I picked up 2 sets of pedals with bikes I bought, paid $45 for a pair of Wellgo SPD's, and got some Shimano MTB shoes for $90 on sale.
Yes, they are worth it, they do make a difference, especially mountain biking.
