it looks like it would distribute stress/wear & tear more evenly across the frame, Bottombracket, and the rear hub. Hence your chains, wheels, and bike would last MUCH longer. At least in theory. Plus the power you put down would all go straight towards propelling you forward, no loss.

I thought about doing this idea about 2 months ago and decided that it would make the bike OVERBUILT. You could do it for cheap with a flipflop hub with spacers, a cheap shimano square tapered axle, and shimano crank on the right side and a suntour crank on the left.

well you would need to reverse thread the flipflop hub. or you can use a hub that is designed to use a disk brake and a freewheel, then put a cog on that instead of a brake, and a hub on the freewheel side.
